In the Outer Banks, volunteers help respond to and monitor sea turtle and marine mammal volunteer activity along our coastline. The Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.) and the Outer Banks Marine Mammal Stranding Network (OBX MMSN) are volunteer organizations permitted by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission to respond to activity from Oregon Inlet to the NC/VA state line. The following application is for volunteers interested in volunteering with either or both of these programs. Upon completion of the application your email will be added to our list-serve from which you will hear about volunteer trainings and opportunities. We look forward to working with you!
Please note, due to the nature of our state permit requirements, volunteers must be able to attend training classes for permit-associated activities. These requirements make it challenging for volunteers who will be in the region for only short periods of time. Most activities are best suited for volunteers who will be in the area for longer than a month. If you are not able to volunteer long-term but instead are looking to keep up with our efforts, please consider signing up to receive updates from our web site here and/or get updates on our rehab efforts here.
